OK, you asked how I made the makeshift front page in my sandbox. Each section is actually a template, arranged within a table; and essentially, they work like tables within tables. As for the two middle sections, one thing I am not figuring out: how to stretch their table heights so that they are always equal in height.
- The left of the midsection: Template:Frontpage feature topic.
- The right of the midsection: Template:Frontpage topic list.
